Whatsapp and other Social Media
Dear Parent / Carer
We are contacting you to ask for your help.
We are spending more and more time, in school, dealing with issues which are all coming from inappropriate social media use at home.
We appreciate that it is difficult to monitor your child’s internet usage at all times however some children would greatly benefit from this taking place more regularly.
We are finding that children are communicating in ways which they would not do face-to face both making poor language choices and sometimes sharing inappropriate content.
As a school, we encourage you to follow the advice contained in the attached National Online Safety information leaflet regarding Whatsapp. Children under 16 should not be using Whatsapp - we recognise that some children will, but we recommend that you monitor their activity closely and discourage them from joining big Whatsapp groups.
Through computing, science and PSHE, children are constantly supported in making the correct choices and it would help them hugely if this was reinforced at home. You could discuss their recent PSHE lessons with them as a start point which were based on cyberbullying, sexting and e-safety.
To support you in this, we have included some web links and guides below:
There are more guides available at https://nationalonlinesafety.com/guides) for your information.
